On Monday, (mom's first day off work for summer and dad was home cause he had an appointment) Brycen went down for a nap as normal. He woke about 50 mins into his normal 2-3 hour nap. He was screaming. Brad tried to comfort him and he did not want to be held. He was pulling his legs up into his chest like he had stomach pains and rolling on the floor. He would stand up for a few steps and then lay back on the floor. There was no communication with us. He would not answer our questions or do what we said.
I called the pediatric clinic and left a message for the nurse. While waiting for a return call this crying and "odd" behavior continued. After 30 mins we just thought we would take him to the pediatrician. When Brad picked him up he went limp and eyes rolled back and started looking like he was passing out. We quickly woke him up and Brad called the paramedics. While waiting, this limp passing out behavior happened multiple times. The EMT's arrived and he finally spoke. He was still pale, laying on the floor, eyes dialated a little. They checked him out. Heart great! Breathing Great! They gave us permission to drive him to the hospital.
This was our first of I am sure many ER trips during his life.
At the hospital they did an EKG, blood work, urine samples, and stomach X-rays and everything looked great. Over the four hours at the hospital, Brycen returned to a normal boy. He started talking, flirting, putting stickers on his nose, and doing things two year olds do. The staff noticed these changes as well.
Since we were all clear and he was acting fine they let us go. Our paperwork said he passed out due to an unknown pain. We talked to the cardiologist and he was comfortable with the results and we will follow up with the pediatrician next week.
We have done a little research on our own. Maybe major gas type pain?? Or Night Terrors??
If it is a night terror I guess we went to far to have him checked out but it was sure odd not normal behavior. Anyone have experiences with toddlers and night terrors?
